Yes! it is possible to relocate and work as a nurse in the uk. It will require a lot of work and determination but it is completely achievable.

To work as a nurse in the UK, you first need to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Secure a job offer and then apply for the work permit known as Tier 2 Visa.

Step 1: Identity and Qualification Evaluation

At this stage, you will be required to fill in the application form, scan your certificate and your passport details. You will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of £140.

Step 2: Competence Test

They are two tests you will be required to take. The first one is an online multiple choice test which will test your theory knowledge. This can be completed in your home country. It is £83. When you pass, you will be invited for the next stage. The second test is OSCE (objective structured clinical examination), this test can only be completed in the UK. It is priced at £794 however you can easily get your employer to pay the cost.

Step 3: English Competency

They are two different ways to meet this criteria. The first route is to an English test either ILETs or OET. The difference between the English test is OET is based on healthcare scenarios while ILETs is not.

The second route is to prove that your Nursing degree was predominantly taught in English. This can be done using UK NARIC

Step 4: Apply for Jobs

Search and apply for pre registration nurse rolesYou have your OSCE invitation and your English certification. You can now start applying for jobs. When you approach the employers at this stage, you will get suitable offers including payment for OSCE fees, flight tickets etc. When you arrive you start to work and prepare for your exams to become a fully registered nurse.
