5 Common Causes of Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is the continuous inability to achieve and maintain an erection that is enough for a satisfactory sexual performance.
They are various causes of erectile dysfunction both physical and psychological. This post will be reviewing five common causes of erectile dysfunction. In no particular order:
1. Nicotine:
smoking cigarettes/tobacco is a major cause of erectile dysfunction. Nicotine has vasoconstriction properties. This means it makes difficult for blood to flow through the body. This is bad for erection because erection requires an increase in blood flow to the penis.
2. Alcohol:
prolonged misuse of alcohol has been found to be associated with erectile dysfunction. Alcohol affects the signal that causes sexual sensitivity. Alcohol also causes dehydration which leads to less blood flow to the penis to cause an erection.
3. Obesity:
Obesity in men is a major factor of erectile dysfunction. An erection is achieved with the help of testosterone hormone; increasing blood supply. Clinical studies in obese men revealed testosterone hormone levels to be very low.
4. Diabetes:
Erectile dysfunction is a complication in diabetic patients. Uncontrolled sugar levels causes nerve damages therefore reduction in sexual sensitivity.
5. Stress and Anxiety:
Being under pressure leads to anxiety and stress and in return unable to achieve an erection.
