Zantac Sale Suspended Over Cancer Fears | US Canada France
Zantac (Ranitidine) is a H2 antagonist used for treating heartburn and excess stomach acid.
It is widely prescribed and can be purchased over the counter. Zantac sale is suspended in US Canada and France.
The sale is being suspended due to concerns of impurities called N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) found in ranitidine products.
NDMA is a chemical compound found in many processed foods and water. It causes no harm if ingested in low levels.
NDMA is classified as probable human carcinogen. This means long term exposure over certain levels may increase the risk of cancer.
Zantac products are not recalled in UK. Patients are advised not to stop treatment immediately. BUT consider other treatment alternatives and speak to their prescriber.
