Top 5 Body Positivity Tips | Mental Health Awareness
How we think and feel about our body plays a major part in our mental health and wellness. It deprives us from enjoying life and reaching our full capabilities. This can start from teenage age or even younger.
An online survey carried out in March 2019 by the Mental Health Foundation with YouGov revealed:
“Among teenagers, 37% felt upset, and 31% felt ashamed in relation to their body image.”
“One in five adults (20%) felt shame, just over one third (34%) felt down or low, and 19% felt disgusted because of their body image in the last year.”
This data shows you are not alone and it is ok to not feel ok. Some days we conquer some days we struggle. The next day we keep fighting.
Top 5 Body Positivity Tips
Before we dive into my top 5 body positivity tips, it is very important to know it is not a day process. It is a continuous activity. We have to make a choice every morning to wake up and keep pushing.
1. Acceptance:
This is truly the first step to freedom. Accept your body for all it is. Every flaw you think you have is what makes you unique it is what makes you YOU. You are beautiful because of it.
2. Surround Yourself With Positivity:
You should only surround yourself with people that bring positivity. Imagine if you have someone that constantly tells you negative comments about your body, even if it is in form of a joke.
3. Declutter Your Life:
Starting with your phone. If you follow any accounts that make you feel bad about your body image just click the unfollow button. It is not worth the stress. Anything that brings out your insecurities should not be allowed to stay.
4. Talk:
Talk to a trusted friend or healthcare professional. Being able to share your thoughts will help a great deal. They are various organisations ( Samaritans, MIND, ) ready to help.
5. Stay Active:
Exercise does not have to be a vigorous physical activity. Enough exercise to increase your heart rate will lead to the release of endorphins. Endorphins trigger positive feelings in the body.
Do not forget, everyone has insecurities be kind to one another #BeBodyKind
